If he was working in Natal in a Natal jail, why wouldn't he get a Natal LSGC instead of the British one?

That is a question I am unable to answer not knowing what the qualifications was for a Natal LSGCM.

As you can see the medal is named to his parent regiment. Having joined up in 1860 and retiring in 1881 after 21 years service I should think that is the reason why it's not a Natal one - he was awarded it long before the Natal LSGCM came into existence?

Regards

Rory

Good Morning Rory and Brett......

Here is one of my men, a Lockup-Keeper not a Gaoler......????
Remarks are thanks to Frank......

Mike

OSMOND, W. (William)

REG. NO.: N/A
RANK: CIVILIAN SCOUT / LOCK-UP KEEPER / GAOL GUARD

REGT: COLONIAL SECRETARY DEPARTMENT
BARS: NO BARS AS ISSUED

REMARKS / HISTORY:

1. From Find My Past: WO100/279 Civilian Officials in the Colonial Secretary's Department shows a certain William Osmond, a "Lock up Keeper" being "Employed as Scout, captured by B__? 13/9/0?" so I would think, Boers and 13th of September, perhaps 1900, but might be 1901.
