Rather more scarce than I thought! I often think of how such combinations could come about.
Henk
Thanks for that tip; I thought it may have been the same H.Keys of SAI/3SAI but wanted to be certain before spilling electrons.

Correct, I have not looked in the source documents so far. I have relied on the rolls, etc and decided to go ahead because what I had intrigued me and anyway the post was starting to get whiskers. I had to severely restrain my prose.
Thanks for all your comments - really appreciated.

David,

Hale's group of medals was sold at the Spink centenary auction in 1999, lot 1117.

His QSA has five clasps but not Wepener. Given that he was a 16th Lancer before being commissioned into the SAC, is this an error on the roll?

Julian,

It may well be an error on the SAC roll. Here is the page in question from WO100/273p5

The clasps on the Centenary sale (RoK, Paar, Joh, Dh & Witt) suit his service in the 16th Lancers too so I agree with you that the SAC roll looks erroneous.

Thank you for highlighting that.

I went back to look at the entitlement for H Swartz. He joined the SAC from Roberts' Horse. His 'entitlement' to Wepener comes from the SAC roll so it looks as if this too was an admin error.

Keys' entitlement to Wepener was gained through his service in the 1st Brabant's Horse (WO100/237p53 refers).

So, of the three Wep/RoK roll entries, his is the only correct one (that I have so far discovered).

Here's another that looks good on the rolls but discharge dates conflict:

Cpl 714 A Farmer Kaffrarian Rifles previously Cpl 2437 Robert's Horse: P,We,W,RoK,T

Enlisted Robert's Horse 19-1-1900, discharged 8-8-1900 medically unfit. The discharge date is suspect, further work is required.

Discharged Kaffrarian Rifles 5-11-1900.

QSA sold Liverpool medals 1981, apparently entitled to BSAC medal.

Regards
Meurig

PS: I've done the complete Wepener Roll - Kaplan vs WO100 for The Register , and Keys and Farmer are the only two combinations of RoK & We I have seen. Nice one Ian.
