As I said in my PM, the medal naming looks great (100%)and my suggestion B) re camera seems to have done the trick. Frank is absolutely correct regarding the officially renamed medals. The medals were intended to recognise active service to the Crown and I am certain that the recipient was none the wiser. No, I do not have one so far and it has not been for want of trying. At a previous City Coins auction I went after one such (with associated paperwork) and unfortunately missed it.

IL.

Mr FK,Sir...

Query was purely curiosity re: APPEARANCE of the Hon Mag's medal, not demean value or denigrate authenticity!

So then,it may B taken that QSA under perusal is official renaming not die-strike blemish, and concluded furthermore all/every so officially renamed items will bear similar eccentricity.

Farewell.

Mr FK, Sir...

Just gotta dole out a 'thank you' on this one.

The 24257 brief but illuminating expose is, to say the least, well..er..illuminating! And the conundrum of Town Guardsman Cross's medal is once for all demystified - what 4-ums R 4 not so? :
- it LOOKS thin...'cos it IS thin,
- and it IS thin...'cos it is RENAMED,
- absurdly elementary, mes efants...QED & RIP.

Take home message -> a medal renamed - officially or otherwise - is not pristine, & if this affects it's worth...well(again)...the value, like beauty, lies in the eye of the beholder - the commercial medal dealer in this case?

LOL - as the cognoscenti put it!

LOL indeed, but, I'm afraid I cannot possibly agree, perhaps it might be rather fun if you can show some of your medals on here?

Rory,

A lovely example of a DTG medal, especially so given his history. Have you checked his entry in the latest version of Pat's book?

The naming looks fine to me. I have had that feeling on picking up a QSA of thinking it was renamed because the rim appeared narrower around the base only to be pleasantly surprised when I realise that is not the case.

Best wishes
David
