I did see this and like you thought it was not a cap badge.
After seeing your pristine example not really a comparison, will be interesting to see the final bid.

I wish I had his weather, my orchid collection continues to suffer!

No,

, orchids not doing very well, "Alfred" the amaryllis is in full bloom, but, is finding the winter most disagreeable, this particular amaryllis is named after Viscount Milner, unofficially by me!
