David,

When you say Lt Daniel is the man behind Major Panzera, do you mean the chap right at the back (with slouch hat), or the individual just behind and to the left of Panzera (with side cap)?

Neville,

I was not very clear. The tall gentleman with the slouch hat.

The only other pictures I have of Roland Daniel is from the composite image of officers in the relief and defence of Mafeking.

It is difficult to say if that is the same man.

And from a picture of BSAP officers

which looks a lot more like the man in the Wolf picture.

Here is a photograph of Lieutenant Daniel, although the image is not of very good quality.

Thank you, Gustavo,

He is quite tall in that picture from B&W and the same in the picture behind the Wolf which suggests these are one and the same man.

This silver-plated model of "The Wolf", made in 1901, is currently being offered by high-end antiques dealer, M.S. Rau, New Orleans. Price $9,850.

Given the exceptional attention to detail evident in the construction of the carriage, the incongruous form of the barrel suggests to me that the latter is a replacement. Indeed, the barrel bears more similarities with that of the "Lord Nelson", and the old ship's cannon may have been mistakenly referenced when this model was restored.

Photographs courtesy of M.S. Rau, New Orleans: Silverplate Cannon with Wheels.

Photograph previously posted by David, showing the detail of the carriage, which has been beautifully replicated by the maker of the model.

The barrel mounted on the model carriage bears more similarities with the old ship's cannon used for the "Lord Nelson" than it does with the barrel made in Mafeking for "The Wolf". Note in particular the profile of the muzzle.
