David
Thank you so much
Fred Banning would be my relative, at least I think it would be, as my great Grandfather called one of his son's Fred, well Frederick really. Came from Derbyshire - UK

As for David Wilson, I would be extremely grateful if I could have some more information. BTW I also noticed there was a Trooper David Wilson in Jameson's Raiders.

Once again many thanks

Is there a 'Thomas Wilson ' on a CMP nominal roll from 1902 to about 1906 that would be of interest. It would also be of interest to know how an enlisted man gets to stay behind in SA when his regiment leaves for duty elsewhere after the war.

The papers to Fred.W(Wrex ??)Banning are in a terrible condition however, the following is able to be noted.

Attested into the CP on the 1st Sep 1900 with the regimental number 112 aged 24 years and 11 months, he had previous service with the Imperial Yeomanry and was a game keeper by profession.

He was born in Osley or perhaps Oxley, Yorkshire, UK.

He reattested into the CP on the 15/02/1905 and again in Feb 1908 now with the Reg number 232.

There is no mention of any next of kin in the papers.

To answer your question. Many men discharged in SA as time expired after a period of service and then stayed on in SA and joined a South African Regiment/Unit. There were a great deal of men who served in the CP that did just that.

Many thanks, although most of the 'African' branch of the Bannings came from Derbyshire, however I do think the 'profession' is correct.

Thank you again

Best wishes
