From my experience of these they refer to medal rolls and communications - letters, minutes etc. So, some will not be found as David indicated because they are pieces of communication not filed with the medal roll.

I have used them successfully to find other medals where the reference is "medal issued off AG2/M..." or similar.

There will be many thousands of them, I have recorded over 5,000. There are these references for Indian units.

So were these notes merely ephemeral and have been weeded out or are they collated and waiting to be found?
Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.

I have no idea where they maybe - the "Important Decisions" book that David B. found may contain some of these references.
